Why We Finish Every Game Before Reviewing It

Why We Finish Every Game Before Reviewing It

May 28, 2026 · Jonas Brandt

There's a quiet epidemic of reviews written off the back of a trailer and five minutes of tutorial. We've all read them. They tell you nothing because the reviewer learned nothing.

When we pick a game up, someone on the team commits to it. For short games that means seeing the credits. For endless ones it means reaching the point where the loop either hooks you or shows its seams — usually the first couple of hours past the honeymoon phase.

This is why our reviews take longer and why we publish fewer of them. It's also why we can tell you where the difficulty spikes, where the timers start biting, and whether the good idea in the first hour actually holds up.

It's not a complicated philosophy. Play the thing, then write about the thing. We just wanted to say it out loud.
